Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Valentin, suspected of allegedly embezzling public funds

Ali Bongo Ondimba's former-wife Sylvia Bongo was imprisoned for "money laundering" and other offenses. According to her lawyer, Ali Bongo Ondimba's wife, who had been detained under house arrest since a coup in the central African nation in late August, has been imprisoned.

Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Valentin was imprisoned late on Wednesday after being accused of allegedly embezzling public monies, according to her lawyer Francois Zimeray, who blasted the "arbitrary... illegal procedure."

On September 28, Bongo's wife was accused with money laundering, forgery, and record-falsification.

She was placed under house arrest in Libreville the day after her husband was deposed as president by a military coup.

The former president of state, along with his entourage, are accused by the military of tampering with election results. They have also openly accused his wife of manipulating him ever since he suffered a major stroke in 2018.
